The Tool You Already Have

Hey Reader,

Let me ask you something.

When’s the last time “I can’t afford that” came out of your mouth without you even thinking about it?

This week? Today? Before lunch?

You’re in good company. Most people say it on autopilot. I know because I’ve said it too.

But here’s what nobody told us, Reader: those words aren’t just a reaction to your situation. They’re feeding it.

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” (Proverbs 18:21)

Not in the devil’s hands. Not in the economy’s. In your tongue.

Meanwhile, the world hands you it's menu:

Work harder.

Wake up earlier.

Grind until there’s nothing left.

Whatever you do, don’t quit.

Sounds productive. But none of it is the key. The key’s been in your mouth this whole time, and you’ve been using it to work for the wrong side.

“A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.” (Proverbs 18:20)

Increase follows your words. So this isn’t an “ease into it” thing, Reader. It’s a right-now thing.

Put your hand over your mouth.

Guard it. Starting today, in every area: money, health, peace, all of it.

Then look at the area where you’re struggling the most and ask yourself:

What have I been saying about this?

Maybe you’ve been speaking the problem. Maybe you’ve been saying nothing at all. Or maybe you’ve been speaking the promise, just not nearly often enough.

That’s the part most people miss, Reader. You release your faith through the words of your mouth. The more you say it, the faster it moves. So it’s time to ramp up your confession.

Picture somebody whose bank sends them a notification that their account is overdrawn. They can agree with it, or they can answer it:

“My God supplies all my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)

“I am the seed of Abraham. I was made to increase.” (Galatians 3:29)

Don’t say what you see. Say what you want to see. And Jesus is the High Priest over those words (Hebrews 3:1), so when you say what God says, He backs it.

Your situation is temporary (2 Corinthians 4:18). Don’t let it produce permanent words. Change your temporary situation with God’s permanent Words.

Your 7-day challenge, Reader:

  1. Today: Zero negative confession. Catch it when it is just a thought. Thoughts that go unspoken die unborn.
  2. All day, every day: Speak the promise for your biggest area. Morning, night, in the car, in the shower. Say it out loud as often as you can.
  3. Every day: Thank Him like it’s already done. (Hebrews 13:15)

Seven days is where you start, not the finish line. This is how you talk from here on out.

Watching my words with you,

Yours in-Christ

Caleb Holland
